Fast Hybrid Tires

This is the third set of these tires for me. I've got them on an old, rigid mountain bike that I've converted to a hybrid. These tires make the bike 90% as fast as a road bike.The max inflation is 100 PSI, which is what I wanted. Many other 26-inch "slicks" only allow 65PSI or so, and the higher pressure makes a huge difference in speed. (Yes, at 100 PSI, they are fairly hard. At 85-90, they have just a touch of cushioning, but are still fast.)The rubber compound feels really soft, which is good and bad. It's good because these things grip like crazy. It's bad because they wear more quickly as a result. But they are inexpensive, so I don't mind.Some people worry about the slick design, but if you're riding on pavement, slicks are better than treads. And these tires will roll through a little sand or mud pretty well. They work great in the rain, too, where the soft compound grips the wet pavement very well.

First. To the ad wizards at Nashbar: put down that bowl of Skyline Chili and include the dimensions of this tire with the ad. For the curious, this is a 26x 1.25" tire.Second. This is an excellent product for those wishing to take a break from fat tire riding and transition the bike to something more suited for flat, urban terrain.Since most of my riding now takes place on roads and not the trail, I decided to try slicks for a change. I chose these based on the price with the rationale that if they weren't a good fit for my riding style, the sunk costs would be minimal. I had hoped for something a bit wider, but after finishing my first ride with these, I'm satisfied with the 1.25" width.With my fatties on, I always used 15mph as a good benchmark speed for cruising along, but with these slicks I was able to go between 18-20mph with relative ease. I have them both at about 85psi. I'm ~210 lbs. Winds were calm and the road/sidewalks were mostly dry.While it does look a little funny still, having such skinny tires on my Cannondale F9, I return to the axiom "If it looks stupid, but it works, it's no longer stupid".The bike feels more nible yet equally sure-footed on the ground. Natually acceleration and speed are improved. In spite of having only 15 miles on these, I hold no regrets so far in buying them.

Fast Tires

Threw a pair of these on my MTB to keep up with my friends road-framed commuters. Did the trick. These tires transformed my MTB into a speedy agile machine. I run the front at 90psi and the rear at 100psi. Although the ride is more comfortable at 80. These tires are very skinny width wise (probably the skinniest I could run on my stock MTB rims) and have thin sidewalls. The treads are wearing ok. I have had only 1 flat so far, my fault completely though, a pinch flat on the rear after a very steep grass slope turned into a surprise 12" block curb at the base. My stock tires could have taken my jump technique error, but these tires are obviously not for trail blazing. For this reason, I recommend buying extra tubes if you are used to riding on thick-robust MTB tires. I've ridden wet/dry and these grip like crazy. Although I recommend avoiding sand and fine loose dirt, it'll get loose on you fast. For the price, these tires are worth it and more! Don't forget to pick up tubes to match if you want to run the higher psi! Enjoy the ride. :)
