I have been futzing with U-locks for years, and although I've become skilled at locking my rear wheel and frame through various racks, I am done with it. So, why not a normal cable lock? Because bolt cutters are cheaper than my bicycle!Thank you German engineering. This lock is great, and so is the frame attachment it comes with, it just snaps in and out. It's light, and strong. Can't drill the lock mechanism it will just spin the plate. Can't cut with a hacksaw, and have you ever used bolt cutters, you'd probably need a very burly pair to get this cable.Another great feature is that it can be locked without the key, just unlock it, put the keys away, and snap it closed around your precious. Seriously if you have any bicycle that you'd rather not have stolen, and you're always annoyed at how long it takes to lock/unlock your bicycle... buy it. I got two.see:[...]

I purchased this as a secondary lock to my Kryptonite New Yorker U-Lock. I use that to lock the frame and either rear wheel or front wheel to a rack or post and this to lock the other wheel to the frame or if it'll reach to the bike rack as well. Sold Secure has approved this lock as bicycle bronze meaning it's the lowest approved lock rating it can get and described for opportunistic thieves. If you're going to lock a nice bike with just this lock and an experienced thief comes by he'll steal it. Now will someone try to cut through this lock for just a tire? Nope. Really most thieves wouldn't even cut through a regular cable just looped to the U-Lock but this is more secure than that.Don't ever trust a reviewer that rates a lock great just because their bike wasn't stolen yet. It's like saying Russian roulette is safe because the gun hasn't gone off yet. Time will create a bike-less owner some day.I gave it 4 stars because it suits why I bought it very well. It's relatively light and very flexible and I do love being able to lock it without pulling out the key. However I took away a star because for only a little more you can buy a gold rated lock. Why didn't I get that gold rated lock? It'd be heavier and I'm already using a gold rated U lock.

I need a good cable lock for my bicycle in addition of the Cryptonite U-lock. I did a lot research and decided to buy this lock. The weight of this lock on Amazon site is incorrect. You can find the specifications of this lock on the web site of Abus ([...])Abus lists it as 780g. Mine weights 770g (1.12 lb) without the mount. The lock is very plexible with soft rubbery wrap. It can be wrapped around a post of 4 inches in diameter. It comes with a mount, but I am not using it. I leave the lock unlocked in the basket on top the rack. It is faster to lock my bike this way.Abus makes many cable locks; the more secrue, the heavier. This one has acceptable weight with reasonable resurity level, but I would not leave my bike with just this lock by itself. I used it to lock front or rear wheel to the frame or sesure the bike on a large pole which my Cryptonite U-lock is too small to hold on. I like the lock very much.I looked other locks, like the OnGuard cable locks. They are cheaper but do not have enough information for me judge their quality. I will pay a good quality lock for any price to secure my bike.
