By T. Martin
I have a 20 mile, one-way, ride and noticed a major improvement in reduced rolling resistance and max speed. Not only are these lighter than the Serfas I've been using for years (although they're good for half as much $$), but they roll easier, don't need a liner to prevent flats, but they also have a reflective strip to make me more visible in traffic. The tread (what little there is) is great for pavement and rails-to-trails, ok for hard-packed dry dirt trails, but totally useless in wet and muddy dirt trails. Every tire is a trade-off (great on roads OR trails, never both), but if you're commuting around town and only on flat grass and dirt for shot cuts, this is great. If you need more side knobs on slightly more technical paths, look at a few other Marathon models (ie Hurricane HS or Marathon Plus). This tire will take more pressure than many 2.0" tires. This means you'll get more speed and less chance of a pinch-flat if you hit a pot hole but can add a bit of stiffness to the ride. I love these so much on my commuter I'm getting another set for my single speed.Update: I've been using these tires on 2 bikes for over a year now & I've only gotten one flat while riding over 2k miles on one set. The treads are showing wear, but probably have another 1500-2k left on them. I get plenty of speed on pavement & never feel like I might lose traction (even in rain). I upped my ratings an extra star & will definitely buy more of these as needed. For commuting it's only these & my Marathon Winter tires when it snows & freezes from now on.

By J. Carroll
There are plenty of good things to say about these tires, which I have had on my commuter/general purpose cruiser for more than 1,000 miles:-They are pretty light for their size, a little over 500 grams in the 26x2" folding bead size.-They roll super fast and smooth for mtb size tires, and grip very well on wet pavement and gravel, and not so bad on dry dirt. They might be the nicest, most secure-feeling road tires I've had on my old mountain bike.-No flats so far. Never ridden this far on any tires without a flat.-Durable tread. The front took a couple hundred miles for the center rubber ridge on the tire to wear off.And a few bad things that add up to a diagnosis of 'not very robust' and 'needs superglue':-That super grippy rubber also gets cut up like crazy by road or trail debris. I've superglued a number of large cuts back together.-The reflective sidewall stripe began peeling off immediately on one tire - superglue - and looks to be loosening on another.-The rear tire developed a network of sidewall cracks within a few hundred miles, almost as if I'd been riding them severely underinflated. But I keep the PSI to at least 50. To be fair, I weigh over 200 and ride these tires hard, dropping off curbs, bunnyhopping obstacles, and generally messing around at times. It's nothing terribly unusual in a rear tire, and I don't think it's a problem for now.Nevertheless, you expect a lot out of a tire as high-priced as this one. And I think the price is the main sticking point here. If this were a $30 tire like the similar but less-nice Michelin City 26X1.85, they would be the best tire ever. But at more than $70, plus the durability issues, not sure I'll buy them again.Enjoying them now though.UPDATE APRIL '12They still haven't failed, but the back tire is looking a little iffy now. Silvery strands of something are coming out of the sidewall , there are huge cracks opening up around the tire, and the reflective strip is peeling in numerous places. I only have maybe 2000 miles on these things, and keep the rear at a pretty firm 65 psi or higher. Front tire looks basically OK. Still haven't gotten a flat though.UPDATE JUNE 13Now I'm terrified by the back tire, but it still hasn't blown. Not sure how or when it happened, particularly because I've ridden this bike very little in the last 6-8 months, but the sidewall appears to have been almost ground through. Also, the reflective stripes on both front and rear tires are coming loose around the entire circumference.

I ordered these tires about a month ago, and boy are they fast. My main set up is an old Jamis mountain bike that had knobby tires on it, so in order to make it more fun to ride, and more economical I decided to get a tire with less resistance. I chose these and was very satisfied. My average speed went from 14-16 mph to 18-22 mph instantly which was a great upgrade on speed. the main selling point for me was these tires have extra flat protection which gives me more comfort knowing that I have extra protection without all the extra weight armadillos give.Unfortunately, on a four hour expedition with my pop, the rear tire gave out suddenly, and when changing it we assumed it was just a bad inner tube. But once we inflated the tire we realized that the seem between the sidewall and tread had somehow given out (keep in mind this is with less than a hundred miles on them) and the tube started to bubble out. I was pretty disappointed about this because it made me question the build quality. However I contacted the seller (Niagara Cycle Works) and they quickly responded and to let me know that they would replace it free of charge and shipping, and would inspect the tire themselves to make sure it did not have a similar problem. I am very pleased about the customer service and even though I am still waiting on the tire ( contacted them only a few days ago) I am confident that they will follow through!*The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is because of the questionably build quality which is disappointing at such a high price point. So I hope schwalbe does something about their build quality. hopefully I am the only one who had this problem. Overall though its a great tire.
